Isla Redonda Information

Isla Redonda started off as a Cortijo. Today’s Isla Redonda became a village in the middle of the first century, which will prolong its existence at least until the fifth century. Some of these towns and urban centers disappeared during the fifth century, whilst others managed to survive the invading Vandals, Visigoths and Arabs. It is not known exactly what happened to Isla Redonda.

Not until later in the fifteenth century Isla Redonda and La Aceñuela became agricultural land, with limits and extensions that are very difficult to specify. The Catholic Monarchs, in July 1496, granted their secretary Francisco de Madrid "aceñas and irrigated lands" in Isla Redonda, this being the first documentary reference preserved on such land.
The process of colonization of the area intensified progressively in the sixteenth century, thanks to the labor coming from the neighboring Bridge of Don Gonzalo (named today as Puente Genil).

In 1751, the Cortijo de Isla Redonda, was owned by the Marquesa de Rivas and then in 1819 it was owned by Alonso Lasoand the Duquesa de Argete. But it was not recognized as a town until the 19th century, when it was recognized as part of the town of Écija.

This event is attended by people from nearby towns who come to enjoy this tribute to the art of flamenco. In addition, sports competitions for young people and adults are held to complete the four days.
